When Billy Bullied Butter

By Julie Vargas, PTA

Billy the billy goat was a bad boy. Billy would butt and bully the others, especially Butter the horse!

Butter the blonde pony felt like he didn’t belong. All the other horses were bigger and better than him. They could bounce and buck and boy, could they bellow! But Butter was basic.

Butter knew this and would ask God, “Why me? I believe You created me, but I don’t like being boring and basic or bullied.”

In reply, Billy would bully Butter saying, “You aren’t beautiful like the horse Beauty and you don’t even have a big brand like the horse Blueberry.” This made Butter feel bad.

One day, Billy was bossing Butter around and butting his horns into Butter’s belly. The horse Blueberry saw this and became filled with compassion for Butter.

Blueberry said, “Billy you brute! Be kind to Butter!”

Billy bellowed, “Mind your own business, Blueberry! Can’t you see that Butter is basic and boring?”

Blueberry said, “Billy, don’t you know that Butter was created that way by God? Butter may not have a big brand or be beautiful, but he was made by God’s design!”

Billy brushed this off, and burped and bumbled away.

But Blueberry looked at Butter and said, “I’m here to stay. You may not be the best, but you do your best and you can bless the Lord because of that.”

Butter said, “Thanks Blueberry- I will do my best for the cowboys, and that is how I will be beautiful in the eyes of God!”

Next time you’re tempted to think less of who God made you to be, stop and remember Butter and Blueberry, and Billy. God is never wrong and sees beyond what we look like. He sees our heart and that’s what makes us beautiful!
