To My Caregiver
Not many know the road you’ve walked
or understand its burden
Not only your own trials do you lift
but mine you daily share in
The endurance you have lifts me up
when my strength is taken away
The weaker I get, the more you bear
to remind me that there is hope today
Pain and sickness are my companions
but you soothe them with your song
When I was at my lowest place
you were my joy amidst the storm
The more my pain became unbearable
the more you showed me love
Though I was not always able to show you
how grateful that I was
Others may not understand
what we have been through together
Misunderstood and devalued
is the work of a caregiver
But my heart knows and can’t forget
the debt of love I owe
To the one who didn’t let me bear
this burden all alone
